Namaskaram! Wish you all a very happy Navaratri / Dasara 🙏🏻 Dasara Gombe / Navaratri Golu tradition has been passed on from two generations in the family. We have been arranging dolls at home for Navaratri for as long as I can remember. Traditional steps / Golu padi include all the gods and goddesses worshipped during Navaratri. This year I have taken a modern approach to showcase various life events on the steps and themed display includes vibrant celebrations of Dasara habba in Mysuru.

Gombe Habba is an integral part of Dasara celebrations in Mysuru. Mysuru comes alive with vibrant celebrations, cultural events and a grand procession. This festival is a celebration of tradition, culture and royalty that is considered one of the most spectacular events in India.

The theme for this year’s Dasara doll arrangement is dedicated to cultural capital of Karnataka and my hometown “Mysuru”. The display includes all the landmarks of Mysuru and captures vibrant celebrations during Dasara at every corner of the city.

Traditional steps display Dashavatara, Raja Rani Pattada Gombe, Kalasha, Lakshmi, Krishna, Shiva Parvathi and Sai Baba. We have also displayed major life events starting from Seemantha and all the marriage sequences including Gowri Pooje, Kashi Yatra till Shasti Poorthi.

Display of Mysuru Dasara includes major landmarks of Mysuru. The placement of these landmarks in the display is as seen on the map of Mysuru.

The Display also includes Vajra Mushti Kalaga (wrestling with diamond knuckles) and Mysuru Hatha Yoga with Surya Namaskara sequence.

As an ode to my heritage, I have included a display of Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy temple with Pancha Pandava display during the Panguni Utsavam.

There is a display of Vidhana Soudha and travel to Toronto, Canada from Bengaluru completing the full circle of our journey so far.

Our golu has 5 steps and has many idols of divine deities. Some of the fruits made of terracotta are almost 80+ years handed over from previous generations. We are keeping golu for 35 years

Our golu title 'Miniature golu'. Miniature clay dolls collections. Mini doll ashtalakshmi set, mini doll dasavatharam, mini chettiyar doll, mini wedding doll.

This year’s theme of my Golu is ‘Vaikuntam - Golu on clouds’. I wanted to depict the divine vision of Vaikuntam, with Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi Devi at the center, while following the traditional 5-step Golu arrangement.

This year we have 250+ people attending our Golu.

The word "Navratri" is a combination of the Sanskrit words "nava" and "ratri", which mean "nine" and "nights" respectively.

Navratri is a Hindu festival that celebrates the goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. The festival is celebrated for nine nights and ten days, usually in the month of Ashvin, which is between September and October. The dates of the festival are based on the lunar calendar.

During Navratri, each day is dedicated to a different form of the goddess Durga. The festival ends on the tenth day, which is known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. In north India, Ram Leelas are performed during Navratri to commemorate the battle
between Lord Ram and the demon King Ravana.


My Theme this is is all about "Evergreen"

This theme can be considered in two ways

1.These plants simultaneously grow new, and drop old, leaves throughout the year :

Which means a person can keep growing in their personal, professional and social life by looking forward and with positive attitude by leaving or shedding down the old or past negative aspect of life. being positive always gives us a fruit for our hard work and efforts.


2. Evergreen can also be considered as to keep our surroundings and society clean and green, saving the trees and other natural resources.

Hence my theme is fully and all about Green 💚

My husband made the Mysore palace model from thermacol and he added a set of mini lights here and there for a good finish. There's also Thennangoor Pandurangan temple, alongside of which you could see Thirupathi Balaji and Thaayaar sannidhi. And how could I ever forget our own Pazhani murugan with the extra details like rope car, thanga radham and kaavadi.

Happy Navarathri. I would like to first express my gratitude to sapthavarna team for conducting the Golu & encouraging our tradition to grow high.

We keep 7 steps traditional Golu every year. I have decorated the lamp as Ambal.
Apart from arranging the dolls for us we wanted to bring in deep message about our traditional culture along with a Golu Theme.

This year we have tried to create a miniature of Thiruvannamalai covering its architecture, which has a lot of historic, traditional, and mythological values.
We have showcased ‘Deepa Thiruvizha’ festival where the Utsava Moorthies are taken for a procession. Along with that we have shown Ardhanareshwarar who comes out of the shrine once in a year during Deepa Thiruvizha festival which is celebrated as Karthigai Deepam.
You can see Gopurams, pillars and many more significant places of the great ancient Arunachaleshwarar temple.

My name is Vani, and have been in Canada from past 19 years. I love gombe habba. Over the years our doll collection has grown. This year I can confidently say that our golu has come out grand, thematic, and very colorful. Our backdrops are so unique, and matching the whole setup. This year our daughters have put extra effort to showcase kids side with there Legos, barbie, LOL, Calico critters, etc. collection.
Going into details of set up by theme, from left to right and back and front, our basement around 475 sq ft is full of golu collection.
